Femke Hiemstra (a.k.a. Femtasia)

Femke Hiemstra

For this artist I had to restrict myself to 'only' 12 images otherwise I would have gone wild and displayed her whole collection on this blog. Each and every one of her wonderful paintings are full of fantasy and deep shining colours. I love the quirky animalesque creatures in Femke's rich detailed paintings.
I especially am in awe over the soft glowing precise paintstrokes.
For news updates, works in progress you can also check out her blog.

Amy Leonard

Amy Leonard

Such lovely closh-shaped cabinets of curiosity Amy Leonard makes. I find the little worlds intriguingly charming. It is a pity that Amy Leonard stopped uploading new material after 2008 and that I could not find any other info on the interwebs. But nonetheless her 'closh-lights' are a lovely visual adventure to see.

Charlotte Kingsnorth

Charlotte Kingsnorth

I am addicted to everything Chesterfield, I admit it. And Charlotte Kingsnorth's awarded 'coach potato' sofa is pushing all the right chesterfield-buttons. The story behind this sofa is all about the alarming rate of obesity amongst the  population is growing. What inspired her is the painter Jenny Saville and her graphic body studies. This beautiful sofa with its glistening leather skin, buttons structuring and molding it into glowing curves. For me this feels more as an appreciation and a statement than disapproval.

I Love Fonts

I Love Fonts

Don't you just love fonts? It is amazing how a font can set the tone. It can be flowy, romantic to tax-return-letter-boredomness. But that is of course well known. There is a lot to do about fonts.

The Dutch government has chosen {after a long design process} one single font for there entire dtp-, graphics- and advertisement department. I can understand that they chose this direction, it shows a strong and unified feel. The designer and the font can be found here.
Saving the environment can even start at designing the font. A small seed has planted among graphic designers to look at the font they are designing not just from an esthetic point but also from a production point.

This blog is full of variety and inspiration, from old to new fonts, to book reviews. You can find tutorials, great links and free fonts as well.

Inez and Vinoodh

Inez and Vinoodh

Inez and Vinoodh are no deep stored hidden gems. They are a very popular high praised photography couple. But this couple is very special to me and has inspired me since so long.
I keep loads of ripped out magazine images and the Louis Vuitton 'mask' {img nine} is a long time favourite.
I love the sensuality and softness of the way the human body is represented. The photo's show a lot of theater. Often they use various lustrous materials, props and tecniques to unveil or hide an identity.

Yuliya Art

Yuliya's art is diverse, from digitalized photo adaptations, beaded jewellery to amazing illustrations.
I love the illustrations very much they remind me of old russian fairy tales illustrations with great creatures such as Baba Yaga. One of the best Russian illustrators is Ivan Bilibin . Yuliya's art is pack-full of magic, whimsy and beautiful intense lines

Gitte Nygaard

A very special jewellery designer. Her product relate back to the earth, with touches of typography and medieval ornaments. History and development are incorporated in every jewellery piece. I feel Gitte Nygaard works like a director to display her collections in such a way that the pieces true nature truly shines.
